How to Enter Recovery Mode on OnePlus 2

OnePlus 2 OTA update

The invite system might be annoying, but if you manage to get the new OnePlus Android based smartphone, then you can really consider yourself quite unique among other Android users. So, if you are currently using the new OnePlus 2, let’s also talk about basic Android operation that can be applied on your device. Yes, I am mainly thinking in helping you discover the full power of your smartphone and the first thing to do in that matter will be in learning how to enter and use the recovery environment.
Through recovery mode you will be able to “communicate” with your OnePlus Two in order to optimize, customize, personalize and restore your Android device. Thus, the recovery environment will establish a virtual link between you and your phone’s internal system. By default and right from the start you will be able to use this software for completing operations like: hard reset, update with OTAs, backup data, clear app data cache and troubleshoot most common Android related issues.
However, if you will want to become an advanced Android user and if you will want to tweak your OnePlus 2, then you will have to install a custom recovery image on your phone. With such a new software, that is only based on stock recovery, you will then be able to take your smartphone to a higher level of performance as you will be able to gain root access, unlock the bootloader, flash .zip files, make Nandroid backups, remove bloatware, install custom ROMs, add custom kernels, overclock and undervolt CPU frequencies and lot more.
Bottom line, the recovery software represents the core center from where you can start to customize and optimize your OnePlus Two. However, it is up to you whether you choose to keep everything official or to risk in applying dedicated and unofficial procedures.
Anyway, the best is that in both cases reaching and using recovery is the same. In fact, the recovery environment is featured by default on your OnePlus 2. So, entering recovery is easy and can be completed in less than a minute. All you have to do is to complete a reboot sequence that will take you into this hidden Android menu. Well, in order to achieve that, just follow all the guidelines from below – as you will notice there are several ways in which recovery can be entered on your OnePlus 2 so choose the method you prefer the most, or try all the steps from this tutorial.
It is important to know that putting your OnePlus 2 into recovery mode isn’t required any risky tools. In fact, this operation is official and you won’t void your phone’s warranty while completing the reboot sequences from down below – you are safe and secured as we will keep it all official.
However, if you are planning in using the recovery mode menu for applying further complex operations, before heading towards the steps from below consider in backing up your personal data, info and accounts – everything might get wiped out or corrupted while you try to tweak your Android device. So, use backup and restore apps (from Google Play, or any other cloud storage platform) and save your contacts, call logs, texts, images, videos, audio files, market apps, internet settings, calendar info, saved passwords, IMEI / NVRAN and so on.
Also, charge your OnePlus 2 before heading towards the steps from below. It is important charge your device before doing anything else because if your phone gets turned off in the middle of the reboot sequence, or while you are using the recovery mode menu, software related problems might be issued, so try not to mess things up.

How to Enter Recovery Mode on OnePlus 2

The Classic Hardware Method

  1. The first thing to do is to power off your phone; don’t reboot it, complete a full power off process: press Power key and select “power off” or press and hold the Power key for a few seconds.
  2. Then, wait a few seconds before completing the following steps.
  3. Good; now press and hold (at the same time) Power and Volume Up buttons.
  4. Release the keys when the fastboot mode will be displayed.
  5. From there select Recover and enjoy.
  6. In recovery use Volume Up and Down keys in order to scroll up and down and Power button to select.
  7. You can go back to Android by choosing “reboot system now”.

Use Android SDK and initiate an ADB command

A computer is required on this method – you should temporarily turn off security protection that runs on your device as antivirus tools might interfere with your plans. On the computer you are using you have to install Android SDK so learn how to flash Android SDK on Windows or how to set up ADB on MAC OS X / Linux. Also, the OnePlus 2 USB drivers must be ensured on your computer. On the other hand, on your phone you have to enable USB debugging, which is a feature that can be found under “menu – settings – developer options” (so, first gain developer options by tapping several times on Built number – from “menu – settings – about phone).
Good; after ensuring these stuffs, connect your OnePlus 2 with your computer. From the Android SDK folder open a command prompt window (press and hold Shift keyboard key while right clicking on any blank space) and then enter the following command: “adb reboot recovery”. The recovery mode will be automatically entered on your own OnePlus 2.

Install and Use a dedicated App from Google Play

The last method that can be used in order to reach recovery on OnePlus 2 implies in downloading a dedicated app from Google Play. So, launch the Market on your Android device and search for the Quick Boot tool. Download and install the software and then run it on your phone. Follow on screen prompts and wait while recovery is initiated on your handset.
Well, that was all for today. You have successfully learned how to enter and use recovery mode on your OnePlus 2.
