Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact Now Up for Pre-order at Carphone Warehouse

Sony Xperia Z5 Carphone Warehouse

Earlier this week, the folks at Sony introduced the new Xperia Z5 family of smartphones. There are three new members of Z5 family: the Z5 Compact which brings high-end specs and a 720p 4.6-inch screen, the Xperia Z5 which packs a 5.2-inch Full HD screen, and the “super flagship” Xperia Z5 Premium which boasts about an amazing 4K 5.5-inch display. Now, British retailer Carphone Warehouse is taking pre-orders for both the Z5 Compact and the Z5.
Carphone Warehouse has also put up a page for the Sony Xperia Z5, but there’s no mention on when the high-end phone will hit their warehouses or when will the pre-ordering process begin. Anyway, you can give them your name, phone, email, and postcode and you will be contacted when the Xperia Z5 Premium becomes available to order. Here’s the Z5 Premium info page.

Sony Xperia Z5

As you might have guessed already, Sony Xperia Z5 is the successor of the Xperia Z4 (which was sold on many markets as Z3+). Sony still uses glass for both size of the phones and there’s also a metal frame around the edges.
Sony Xperia Z5 features a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD screen with Triluminos technology, while being underpinned by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. It arrives with 32 GB of internal storage, 3 GB RAM, and microSD support. On the back there’s a brand new 23 MP camera sensor with phase detection autofocus, LED flash, and 4K video recording support, while the front panel accommodates a 5.1 MP “selfie” camera.
The new phone is 146 mm tall, 72 mm wide, 7.3 mm thin, has a weight of 154 grams, and a 2,900 mAh battery with Quick Charge support. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box, it has a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button, and is water and dust resistant with IP68 rating.
Carphone Warehouse is selling the Xperia Z5 at a price of £549.99 SIM-free. You also have the option to get it with a Vodafone contract for £29.99 down and £40 per month for 24 month, with an O2 contract for £59.99 down and £36 per month, or with an EE contract for zero up front and £41.99 per month for 24 months.
The phone is available in Black, Gold, Green, and White, with the later body color being a Carphone Warehouse exclusive for two-weeks post-launch. The retailer says that they should start shipping the phone by October 6th.

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is the smallest of the three. While most phones with screens under 5 inches bring mid-range specs at most, the Z5 Compact has a powerful hardware platform.
As its name suggests, the Z5 Compact is more, well, compact than the standard Z5 and Z5 Premium. It measures 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm and weighs in at 138 grams, while sporting a 4.6-inch HD IPS LCD screen with 323 ppi pixel density. The rest of the technical specifications are similar to those of the other Z5 cousins. It has a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 32 GB native storage with microSD support, 23 MP camera on the back, 5.1 MP camera in the front, and only 2 GB of RAM.
Just like the other new Sony phones, Xperia Z5 compact has a glass back panel and a metal frame around the edges, plus a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button. It’s water and dust proof with IP68 certification, it’s kept alive by a 2,700 mAh battery, and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
At Carphone Warehouse, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is available for £449.99 SIM-free. If you get the phone with an O2 you will pay nothing up front then £33.50 or £36 per month for 24 months depending on the plan you choose. Xperia Z5 is also available with an EE contract for zero down and £34.99 per month for 24 months, or with a Vodafone plan for £59.99 up front and £30 per month for two years.
The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is available at the British Retailer in Black, Coral, and White body colors. It’s also worth mentioning that Carphone Warehouse has a two-week exclusivity for Coral and White options and that the device is expect to ship by September 29th.
